BoxCast Integration & Live Events

Integrate your BoxCast account with Viewcastle to publish live events on your OTT app.

Viewcastle can now integrate with your BoxCast account in order to publish your live events to your OTT app.

We’re excited to introduce live events to Viewcastle with the rollout of our BoxCast integration. You can now sign into your BoxCast account and map your BoxCast channels to your Viewcastle categories. Doing so lets Viewcastle know what catalogs to place your BoxCast broadcasts under when they sync over as live events. Check out the video or details below for more information on how to use third-party integrations for live events.

Launched

  • BoxCast Integration: Navigate to Setup -> Settings -> Integrations -> BoxCast -> View Details and click Install to add the integration to Viewcastle. Once the integration appears under your Installed list you can click on the toggle switch to enable it. You’ll be prompted to sign into your BoxCast account in order to authenticate. Follow this prompts instructions and once complete you will see the status of your BoxCast integration go from connecting to connected once successfully connected.
  • Channels: To make use of third-party integrations such as BoxCast, you must assign incoming channels from your integration to categories that you’ve created inside of Viewcastle. To do this, navigate to Setup -> Channels and find the channel you’d like to assign to a category, click the + button, select the desired channel, and click Assign. Doing so will tell Viewcastle to place future incoming events from your integration into the associated category and will also default the event to being enabled and published. Now when you schedule new broadcasts in your integration, such as BoxCast, they will automatically get published to your Viewcastle site under the appropriate categories / catalogs. You may optionally exclude channels by clicking the - button. This will tell Viewcastle to ignore any incoming events that are assigned to this channel from your third-party integration. Future content created under excluded channels will not appear in Viewcastle at all.
  • Events: You can now view your future, current, and past live events under the Content -> Events page. Just like with videos, you can setup publish dates, subtitle, gates, additional categories and cover art. As of now, live events can only originate from a third-party integration that support live streaming. In order to use this feature you must setup a third-party live streaming integration such as BoxCast by navigating to Setup -> Settings -> Integrations.
  • Batch Enable / Disable: You can now select multiple videos or events at a time and mark them as enabled or disabled all at once. Simply select the videos or events you want to enable or disable, and then click the Enable or Disable button that appears in the top right of the table.

Near-term

  • Manage Admin Users
  • Your Personalized OTT Frontend
  • Features of the OTT Frontend will be rolled out over time, but we will start by rolling out the homepage.
  • Sub-Products: Add one or many sub-products under your recurring products if you want your recurring product to provide access to the same content as other products. For example:
  • A Nature Pay-Per-View one-time product is setup to be $4.99 one-time to purchase and watch a nature video. You then set up a Nature+ recurring product for $4.99/mo and you want the subscription to give users access to all your nature videos including those that are pay-per-view. To do this, you would set Nature Pay-Per-View as a sub-product of Nature+.
  • Automated Media Rows: Configure where certain automated rows will display on your OTT application, such as:
  • “Recent”
  • “Upcoming”
  • “Keep Watching”
  • “New”
  • Custom Pages
  • Menus: Define which custom pages to show in your web application’s header and which to show in a “More” menu.
